- CUPERTINO, California-October 15, 1993-Apple Computer, Inc. today
- announced that John Sculley has resigned his position as chairman of
- the company's board. In doing so, Sculley ends his employment at the
- company.
- A.C. (Mike) Markkula has been elected Apple's new chairman of the
- board. Apple's Chief Financial Officer, Joseph A. Graziano, has been
- elected to the board.
- "For the past ten years, John Sculley has had one of the most
- compelling and articulate visions of how computing technology can
- improve the lives of people everywhere," Markkula said. "We are lucky
- to have had him leading the company during this time of incredible
- growth and expansion."
- "John Sculley took Apple from a $600 million company to an $8 billion
- company, managing some of the most difficult, exhilarating, and
- dramatic periods in the world's most exciting industry," said Michael
- Spindler, Apple's Chief Executive Officer. "And he did it with
- intelligence, vision, and a profound understanding of the incredible
- potential of high technology."
- "I've had some wonderful years at Pepsi, an extraordinary journey at
- Apple, and now I am ready to head off to new challenges," Sculley
- said. "I'm tremendously grateful for the support of so many
- phenomenal Apple people. I wish everyone involved with Apple great
- success in the years ahead. I'll be out there cheering you all on."
- Markkula, 51, was one of Apple's founders and its first Chairman of
- the Board, from 1977 to 1981. He has been vice chairman since 1981.
